Sam Mazarei at GBL

Sam has always been interested in puzzles, riddles, and brain teasers. When he was young, he enjoyed taking everything apart to see how it worked, often forgetting to put things back together. As he got older this desire to understand how things work became a fascination with tech in general, so when the time was right he enrolled in community college to study Computer Science.

Sam is now a Senior in Computer Science at CI, graduating in December 2021. During the summer 2021, Sam did an internship as a Software Developer at GBL Systems, where he participated in a large scale software development effort, using the Agile methodology, and CI/CD. Sam became enthusiastic about programming, and has contributed several tickets, and many technical solutions, to the project.

Travis Chamness at GBL

Travis Chamness is a software development intern at GBL systems, assisting in the review of active systems.

Travis is a senior student at CI, majoring in Computer Science. His LinkedIn profile can be seen here, and he has an active GitHub repository that can be visited here.

I discovered computer science to be the most interesting major I had investigated after switching my academic major seven times. What resonated with me about computer science was the depth of knowledge needed, the creativity employed, and a need for deep work. These characteristics are what drive me in all of my hobbies whether it is surfing, guitar, culinary, or anything else I choose to do with my time. While in my undergraduate program at CI I worked as a peer-led team leader for COMP 105, 150, and 151. This was opportunity for me to share knowledge and passion as well as to help bond the Channel Islands computer science community.

Jason Morgan at GBL

Jason Morgan is a graduating Computer Science student from CI, who started an internship position at GBL Systems as a Software Developer.

Jason’s LinkedIn page can be seen here; Jason is an AWS Cloud Academy graduate, with a course in Architecting and a course in Developing. Jason is also a music educator, specializing in percussion.

Sarah Hassan at Apple

Sarah Hassan is a 2021 graduate with a BS in Computer Science and a minor in both Visual Media Communication and Mathematics. During her years at CSUCI, Sarah was working part-time at her local Apple Store as a Technical Specialist. While working at Apple and being a fresh graduate, she was granted the opportunity to partake in what is known as a Career Experience, an opportunity for employees to experience a new role while contributing to important projects at Apple. Her role is a Siri Experience Prototyper in the Siri Conversational Interaction team. Sarah believes that her Capstone project (an iOS application) was able to leave a good impression during her interviews along with her graphic design knowledge. She was able to share her link to her Capstone project and discuss technical/design challenges she’s faced while also sharing graphic design work she has done at CSUCI.

Alfred Camposagrado at Northrop Grumman

Alfred Camposagrado is a Principal Embedded Software Engineer at Northrop Grumman. He received his Bachelor’s in Computer Science at CSUCI in 2014. He started his journey in Camarillo working as a Software Engineer for Crescendo Interactive shortly after graduation. He gained valuable experience by initially starting as a front-end developer and later promoted to a Full-Stack developer focusing on Java. His experience in Java landed him a job at Northrop Grumman. Located in Point Mugu, he supports the US Navy with various projects from software development to system integration tests. He also continues his education at CSUCI in the Masters of Computer Science Program (MSCS). http://linkedin.com/in/alfredcamposagrado

Chase McIntyre at Yardi

Chase Mcintyre, Software Development Engineer at Yardi

Graduating with a BS in computer science and a minor is Mathematics in May 2019. While at CI, worked as a PLTL leader for Comp 105, 150, 151, and 162. He was most known for his mastery of the Comp 162 material. His capstone is the development of an Android based business networking application, utilizing Near Field Communication hardware. His adviser is Jason Issacs.

In Chase’s words: I love studying psychology, religion, philosophy, and history in my off time. (I’m a big fan of Dr. Peterson’s work, Dr. Haidt’s work, and many others). I hope to one day work with machine learning/artificial intelligence, to build machines focused around communicating and interacting with humans. This is, and has been, my dream since I was in high school. I’m currently taking 20 units of upper division stem classes and working two jobs – totaling to 70-85 hours a week depending on my homework load. I think AJ and Anna are amazing professors, their challenging classes defined me as a programmer, and forced me to greatly expand my skills. Their experience has been invaluable to me.

Brandon Artner software developer at Yardi

Brandon Artner is a Software Development Engineer at Yardi Systems. He graduated from CSUCI with a degree in Computer Science and Mathematics in 2018. While he was an undergraduate at CSUCI he was an Intern Software Engineer with TRAX International hosted by GBL Systems. He also worked at the STEM Center for four years as a CS and Math tutor. During his studies, he also contributed to research projects involving shape analysis and thin coat instrumentation. His senior capstone project was developing a cryptographic voting system under the guidance of Professor Soltys.

Comp Sci alum Joel Helling working as a Software Engineer at GBL in Camarillo

Joel Helling is a Software Engineer at GBL Systems Corporation and part-time lecturer at CSUCI. He started working at GBL Systems, a government contractor based in Camarillo, in 2014 working on various projects from automated website design, implementation, and testing to desktop application development. Currently, he develops Test and Evaluation tools for the Test Resource Management Center (TRMC) and supports the development of the Testing and Training Enabling Architecture (TENA) Software Development Activity (SDA) including maintaining and updating legacy applications, and designing and implementing new software tools.

Joel completed his Master’s in Computer Science in 2018. His Master’s Thesis, under the advisement of Dr. Soltys, discussed the intersection of stringology and graph theory by relating indeterminate strings with undirected graphs and proving some properties of the indeterminate string and its associated alphabet size. The paper was later published in the Journal of Theoretical Computer Science. Currently, Joel is also working as a part-time lecturer for CSUCI. See here for details.

Our graduate Daniel Vournazos is a Software Engineer for the Android platform at Google

Daniel Vournazos is a Software Engineer for the Android platform at Google; he graduated from CI with a bachelors in CS and Mathematics.  He originally got started with Android development through a directed study and capstone under CI Computer Science professor AJ Bieszczad.  From there he worked at a local company doing some light Android work until he got a job in Glendale at Mobileforming.  There he worked with amazing peers that created an environment for substantial growth, on a variety of Android apps, which helped him with getting hired at Google.
